SINOPSIS

A modo de un documental de ensayo; ecléctico e híbrido, Los Rollos Perdidos de Pancho Villa describe la búsqueda de una película desaparecida: The life of General Villa, producida bajo contrato entre el jefe rebelde mexicano Pancho Villa y la compañía Mutual Film Corporation, en 1914. Haciendo una investigación exhaustiva en los archivos fílmicos de Holanda, Inglaterra, Francia, Estados Unidos, Canadá y México, el realizador compone con fragmentos de películas desconocidas hasta ahora, un mosaico cinematográfico no sólo sobre Pancho Villa, sino sobre la Revolución Mexicana. El hallazgo y restauración del archivo perdido del pionero mexicano Edmundo Padilla, servirá para reflexionar sobre el poder que tuvo el cine estadounidense primero para hacer de Pancho Villa un aliado con dimensiones míticas, y después para transformar su imagen ante la opinión pública como la del peor enemigo de la sociedad.

SYNOPSIS

By means of an essay documentary, eclectic and hybrid, The lost reels of Pancho Villa describes the quest for a lost film: The Life of General Villa, produced under a contract between the Mexican rebel commander Pancho Villa and the Mutual Film Corporation in 1914. Undertaking an exhaustive investigation in the cinematic archives of the Netherlands, England, France, the United States, Canada and Mexico, the director composes with fragments of movies that remained undiscovered until now, a cinematic mosaic not only about Pancho Villa, but about the Mexican Revolution. The discovery and restoration of the lost archive of Mexican pioneer Edmundo Pedilla will serve as a means to reflect on the ability of American cinema to first make Pancho Villa an ally of mythic proportions, and later to transform his image in public opinion into that of society's worst enemy.
